CALD Community Advisor Celebration

More than 40 members of the Hunter’s Culturally and Linguistically Diverse community came together to celebrate their part in a unique engagement and capacity-building project delivered by Ability Links NSW.
The Community Advisors, who speak more than a dozen languages between them, shared their experiences of disability inclusion and community participation and developed strategies to support their communities, including linking people to the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme).
CALD - Culturally and Linguistically Diverse

The CALD Disability Engagement Project supports culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in the NSW Hunter region to identify and access suitable disability supports through the National Disability Insurance Scheme to enhance participation and inclusion in the community.

Community Partnerships

ABILITY Links NSW has developed a positive working relationship with Lakeside School following a referral to the Morisset office.
Through the referral process and in the wake of the benefits which flowed from the family’s engagement with Ability Links, the principal recognised the value of forming a partnership with Ability Links NSW.
On that basis, Ability Links NSW was invited to visit the school on a regular basis to offer support to parents, family members and students.
Movies Under the Stars

The synergy between the two teams has resulted in a number of successful collaborations. Most recently, their work together has culminated in an event called “Movies Under the Stars”.
AT Wyong on the Central Coast of NSW, the Ability Links NSW team has worked closely with partners in the community, including with Kathy Devries, of Uniting Care, at their new premises in Lake Munmorah.

Mount View High School partnered with Ability Links and Up&Up for its Social Inclusion Week activity on Monday.
Year 7 students took part in a graffiti art workshop with a focus on this year’s theme: ‘Collaborate, Connect and Celebrate’.

Chinese Carers

Since January 2016, a Linker from Vinnies and a Linker from SSI have been working in collaboration with Eva Liu from CASS to facilitate the Inner West Sydney Chinese Carers group. This project arose after a person both Linkers were working with identified the need for a social group for older carers of people with disability – a gap that also had been identified by CASS.
